♬Liner Notes♬: It's gonna be a little lazy with the show notes this week due to an obviously busy week at my news radio regular job + but it's also Record Store Day 2013! (And I got to meet Dana Gould after The Simpsons Q&A panel at this weekend's Bridgetown Comedy Festival!) Don't let the bastards grind you down - enjoy life, love and music...That's why these recent episodes have had titles like "Let The Day Begin" or "Coast To Coast". This week's got new music from Mudhoney, Black Rebel, Charles Bradley, Cloud Cult and much more. Now let's Pump Up Tha Volume!

Young Man
"In A Sense"
'Beyond Was All Around Me'
Frenchkiss, 2013
Note: We begin with the Chicago band that Pretty Much Amazing says, "Beyond Was All Around Me is the third [album], and “In A Sense” is its first single. It’s been awesome to hear each record as it comes out, darker, more contemplative, and more representative of the band’s awesome live show than the last one – “In A Sense” is maybe the moodiest track we’ve heard from the band yet, almost like a lost Deerhunter track, with an underlying kraut-y groove beneath a gorgeous and vaguely unsettling sweep of guitar and synth."

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
"Hate the Taste"
'Specter At The Feast'
Vagrant, 2013
Note: Last heard as the title track for Episode052, this week we get more music from the new BRMC record. Song source KCRW says, "Rockin' roadsters Black Rebel Motorcycle Club deliver Specter at the Feast, a heartfelt album inspired by the loss of their mentor and father of front-man Robert Levon Been."
(More Info)

Cloud Cult
"Good Friend"
'Love'
Earthology, 2013
Note: Song source KEXP says, "Today’s featured song, “Good Friend,” is classic Cloud Cult, with vibrant rich orchestration, anthemic sing-along choruses and let’s-feel-good-in-this-often-shitty-world lyrics..."
(More Info)

Wild Belle
"Shine"
'Isles'
Columbia, 2013
Note: "Genre-bending siblings Natalie and Eliot Bergman create a potent mix on their noteworthy debut as Wild Belle. ["Shine"] captures their essence in a word, it's the Shine from their CD, Isles."
(More Info)

FaltyDL
"Straight & Arrow"
'Hardcourage'
Ninja Tune, 2013
Note: "Hardcourage' is the NYC-based Lustman's masterpiece: an electronic opus inspired by love and crafted with renewed intent and dedication. Lustman often makes mention of attempting to channel the music in his head, to allow it to pour forth direct from his subconscious. In 'Hardcourage' it seems he's succeeded. The music here feels incredibly natural, the songs taking the most perfect of shapes, their emotive rise and swell both subtle and immensely powerful."
(More Info)

Mudhoney
"I Like It Small"
'Vanishing Point'
Sub Pop, 2013
Note: "25 years in, Vanishing Point affirms that, even in an age where only the newest of the new can survive, Mudhoney still have plenty to say and more to offer. These are songs written from the rare vantage point of a band who went through the rock n' roll meat-grinder and not only lived to tell such a tale, they came out full of the wisdom and dark humor such a journey provides. Vanishing Point is filled with dread, psychoanalysis and Nuggets-on-fire riffs; the sort of uninhibited rock music that is harder and harder to locate these days. With Vanishing Point, Mudhoney makes it easy."
(More Info)

Phosphorescent
"Ride On/Right On"
'Muchacho'
Dead Oceans, 2013
Note: Paste Magazine says, "Ornery, insubordinate and proud, Houck isn’t the type to lock the front door and wallow in conventional heartbreak. Uncaged, “Ride On/ Right On” throttles into the city at night on Manzarek keys, loose tambourine and crank-oil licks, hopping the curb to slap palms with compañeros and offer a backseat ride to a rebound girl."
(More Info)

The Veils
"Through the Deep, Dark Wood"
'Time Goes, We Stay'
ArtistDirect, 2013
Note: Stereogum says, "The Veils will finally release their fourth studio album this spring and today they’ve unveiled the first single. “Through The Deep Dark Wood” is all thick bass, thunderous drums, and wailing hooks — the recipe for the kind of rock track that stitches itself to your brain and stays put. Check it out below."
(More Info)

Hanni El Khatib
"Can't Win 'Em All"
'Head in the Dirt'
Innovative Leisure, 2013
Note: "Head In The Dirt, produced by Dan Auerbach, is the second album by Hanni El Khatib, where he takes a lucky 11 songs and makes the entire history of rebel music something all his own. He's got cut-to-the-bone Rhythm 'n' Blues and over-cranked Stooges-style stompers. He's got bottomless Black Sabbath riff-outs and Dub-a-delic garageland rockers that call up the spirits of the Clash and the Equals both. By the end of Head In The Dirt, you'll realize that El Khatib actually made something out of everything." We also last heard Hanni on Episode052.
(More Info)

Little Green Cars
"Angel Owl"
'Absolute Zero'
Glassnote, 2013
Note: "2013 debut album from Irish indie-rock quintet" also contains the single we heard last year on Episode035.
(More Info)

Web Of Sunsets
"Fool's Melodies" single
End of Time, 2013
Note: Pitchfork says, "Minneapolis trio Web of Sunsets are just getting started, but their twangy, wistful debut single hints at good things to come. "Fool's Melodies" undercuts its dream-pop atmosphere with a twangy texture"
(More Info)

Charles Bradley
"Let Love Stand A Chance"
'Victim Of Love'
Daptone, 2013
Note: The Waster says "Charles Bradley is set to release his second album this April via Dunham/Daptone. Victim of Love is the much-anticipated follow-up to Bradley’s 2011 debut album No Time for Dreaming, and we can’t wait to drop the needle. " I can see myself going down the Daptone rabbit hole very soon...
(More Info)

Pocket Panda
"City"
'Find Yourself A Stranger' EP
self-released, 2013
Note: Our Pacific Northwest closer this week is Seattle septet whose "rustic, orchestral-tinged folk is organic and passionate... Traces of jazz and country infiltrate “City”, a track that’s sonically more in line with the countryside than urban sprawl. Burning at a steady, mid-tempo driving pace..."
